Preparing for a Rainy Winter

Did you know that just 1 inch of rain on a 1,000 square foot roof can generate about 620 gallons of water? We are placing two 5,000 tanks on site to collect rainwater from the 5,500 sf roof. Bring it on, El Niño!

A Birdseye View

Check out the 12.81 kW solar photovoltaic array on the roof! The panels face south because California is located in the northern hemisphere. The sun rotates around the equator, so therefore the panels will receive more direct sunlight if they are facing south.

Interior Time Lapse

Here's a short timelapse of spray foam insulation (BASF SPF) on the ceiling and walls. Spray foam can insulate hard-to-reach areas that packed cellulose or batts would be unable to fill.  It's easy to apply, has a high insulation value, and very little air permeability.

Laying down Stego Wrap vapor barrier

That is one good looking job site! Progress update January 2015

The yellow sheets are Stego Wrap vapor barrier designed for long-term moisture vapor protection. The sheets are rolled out  under where the slab will be placed, then taped with Stego Tape to seal any permeations.
You can see the Stego Wrap is all laid out and sealed together underneath the dirt.
